A man from Honduras who trekked north as part of a migrant caravan was killed in his home country following deportation from Mexico.
Nelson Roberto Espinal Matamoros, a former migrant from Tegucigalpa, died after unknown gunmen approached him and fired several times, Proceso Digital reported. The murder took place in the northern part of the city as Espinal Matamoros walked along a street.
The news outlet spoke with the victim’s relatives, who revealed that Espinal Matamoros joined the caravan earlier this year and made his way into Mexico–only to be detained by authorities and subsequently deported. Relatives claimed in the Honduran news article that the victim was not a troublesome individual. The article does not mention information about the suspects.
